Description

San Francisco's manifestation of the 1955 doubled master die, WMDO-001 for the 1955-S Roosevelt Dime carries the identical counterclockwise spread from a pivot at approximately 3:00 visible on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and Roosevelt's lips — because the doubling originated on the master die itself, not on any individual working die. Every 1955-S Roosevelt Dime in existence carries this master die doubling, making it universal across the entire mintage. The distinction between master die doubling and working die doubling is fundamental: working die varieties are unique to a single die pair, while master die varieties propagate to all dies created from the affected master. San Francisco struck approximately 18.5 million dimes in 1955, and every one shows this doubling to varying degrees depending on working hub state, working die state, and subsequent coin wear.
