Description

Seventh reverse cud for the 1955-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, from the final years of S-mint cent production in the Wheat Cent era. San Francisco ceased cent production after 1955, making this one of the last S-mint dates for cud collectors. The facility's modest output of approximately 44.6 million cents still generated seven reverse rim failures. Each cud formed through die rim fatigue — relentless striking weakens the steel until a fracture propagates and a section separates, leaving a cavity filling with bronze planchet metal. Cross-referenced as CU-1C-1955S-07R, cataloged by Cuds on Coins.
