1955-S Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-1955S-01

Description

ADC-1c-1955S-01 This 1955S Lincoln cent is unique since it has a tilted die clash. While the majority of tilted die clashes are seen just on the 1960 small date Lincoln cent, this has been the second U. S. coin to feature (other than the 1960 Lincoln cents) a tilted die clash. NOTE:  Since this die was submitted, other tilted die clashes from other dates have been found and submitted. This coin was discovered by William D. Beebe. The only clash mark involved with this event is the line through the URIBUS of PLURIBUS. Notice the small cleft that comes from the line down to the lower loop of the B. This mark was made by the fold in Lincoln’s coat and make an excellent reference point for indicating the position of the dies when they did clash. The absence of any corresponding die clash on the obverse may have meant that the die was changed and replaced with a new obverse die. This clash event can be recognized by the two die cracks, one on both wheat ears that are seen in the images to the left.
