Description
The 1955 Roosevelt Dime was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dime in the Roosevelt Silver Dimes 1946-1964 series. With a mintage of 12.5 million, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 28% of total production. The obverse features Franklin D. Roosevelt facing left, honoring the president who championed the March of Dimes and the reverse displays a torch flanked by olive and oak branches, symbolizing liberty, peace, and strength. Relatively low mintages at Philadelphia and San Francisco make this a semi-key year. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $7 to $15 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5109.
