Description
Class II Distorted Hub Doubling with close spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the 1955 Denver Jefferson Nickel. Obverse: slanted die scratch below the upper portion of E of LIBERTY. Reverse: die scratch between A and M of AMERICA; die scratch from O of OF to A of AMERICA. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 1955-D WDDR-008, attributed by Brian A. Ribar. Class II doubling occurs when the hub flexes during impression, producing spread that increases away from the die center. Denver struck approximately 74.46 million nickels in 1955. Eight DDRs for this date reflects systematic mid-1950s variety research.
