Description

Cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #3 with dual attribution recognition, this 1954-S Jefferson Nickel was cataloged by the Wexler Team with Variety ID: 1954-S 5¢ WRPM-005. Die markers include a die gouge right of the R in TRUST on the obverse. The reverse displays a huge die gouge between the A and M in AMERICA and a small die gouge north of the first T in STATES. The huge gouge between A and M is an exceptionally prominent marker visible under low magnification, enabling rapid die identification. At 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1954-S was among the final regular San Francisco nickels. Schlag's design was in its 17th year, and each die received its S mintmark through manual punch application before production.
