Error
Description
An S/S Northwest repunched mintmark characterizes this 1954-S Jefferson Nickel, documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-399 / DMR-005. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS with a die gouge above the P of PLURIBUS and strong die scratches in front of the forehead on the obverse. The forehead die scratches occupy a prominent area of Jefferson's portrait that collectors naturally examine, making them useful for die identification. The northwest displacement indicates the initial S was placed southeast of the intended position, with a corrective second punch establishing the final placement. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a 21.21 mm diameter.
