1953-D Over Mint Mark OMM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-601, this 1953-D Washington Silver Quarter exhibits a D/D/D/S over mint mark — a Denver D punch applied over a previously placed San Francisco S with additional D repunching, documenting inter-facility die transfer. Die markers UVC-821 / DMR-004 track three stages: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with both at MDS; Stage C at LDS with a die crack down the eagle's right wing, a die crack across the bust, and a die crack across the upper hair and forehead extending into the field. Over mint marks are among the most dramatic varieties in numismatics because they prove a working die was reassigned between mint facilities.
