1953-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-015

Description

Cataloged under UVC-468 and DMR-018, the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-015 is defined by a D/D Northwest repunched mintmark — the secondary D punch displaced to the northwest of the final mintmark position. The 1953-D was struck in 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc bronze at the Denver Mint with Victor David Brenner's wheat ear reverse. Three die stages are documented. Stage A is early to mid-die state, confirmed. Stage B is mid-die state, confirmed, with the obverse in mid-die state and a small die chip on the T of CENT on the reverse — a specific and easily confirmed Stage B marker. Stage C is late die state, unconfirmed. Both Stage A and Stage B are confirmed, providing reliable attribution anchors across the early and middle portions of the die's emission. The Stage B die chip on the T of CENT is especially useful for identifying mid-state examples independent of mintmark legibility.
