Description

RPM-010 on the 1952-S Lincoln Wheat Cent is a VarietyVista-cataloged repunched mintmark cataloged UVC-443 and DMR-012. The S mintmark on this San Francisco issue was applied twice to the working die, leaving a secondary impression offset from the primary S. Three die stages document the variety's progression. Stage A (EDS) carries two specific markers: light die scratches on the obverse and a die gouge through the last U of PLURIBUS on the reverse — the U-gouge providing a precise, letter-keyed reverse identifier at the earliest die state. Stage B (EMDS) develops new die marker conditions on both sides, with the obverse advancing to EMDS and a new die scratch pattern appearing on the reverse simultaneously. Stage C (LDS) reflects the final documented die state. The 1952-S Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at San Francisco in one of the later years of the Wheat Cent series, which ended in 1958. The die gouge through the last U of PLURIBUS in Stage A is the most specific and confirming reverse marker for EDS attribution, while the Stage B reverse scratch pattern provides a distinct secondary reference for mid-die-state examples.
