Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-425 and DMR-016, this Denver Lincoln wheat cent documents a repunched D mintmark across four progressive die states. Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed. Stage B at mid die state is likewise unconfirmed. By Stage C at late-mid die state, a light die crack develops over the V.D.B. initials and a small depression forms on the T of CENT, marking the onset of significant deterioration. Stage D in late die state sees the obverse reach full late condition while a die chip appears on the T of CENT, replacing the earlier depression as metal breaks away from the stressed area. The progression from depression to chip on the T of CENT across Stages C and D illustrates the typical failure sequence where stress concentrations in letter recesses eventually cause material loss. Denver wheat cents from 1952 saw substantial mintages, making roll searching the primary discovery method for RPM varieties.
