1952-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

A triple-punched mintmark variety on a 1952-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, this RPM shows D/D/D Upper Serifs — the D mintmark was punched into the die three times, with remnants of the upper serifs from the earlier impressions visible above the final mintmark placement. Cataloged as UVC-422 and DMR-013, three die stages have been documented: Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed, Stage B shows the obverse in mid die state with a die chip on the T of CENT also in mid die state, and Stage C in late die state is unconfirmed. The "Upper Serifs" designation specifies that the visible evidence of triple punching is concentrated at the top of the mintmark, where serif details from three overlapping impressions create a distinctive layered pattern. Triple-punched mintmarks represent a more complex positioning history than the standard two-impression RPM, requiring three separate applications of the mintmark punch to the working die.
