1952-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Cataloged as UVC-415 and DMR-006, this repunched mintmark on a 1952-D Lincoln Wheat Cent documents three die stages with an unusual attribution pattern. Stage A shows the obverse in early die state but pairs it with a die break on the T of CENT described as late die state, a notable combination where early obverse characteristics coexist with advanced reverse deterioration — suggesting the obverse and reverse dies may have been at different points in their respective working lives, or that the T of CENT was a localized weak point that failed early. Stage B in mid die state remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in late die state is also unconfirmed. Repunched mintmarks on 1950s Lincoln Cents were created when the D mintmark punch was applied to the working die more than once, leaving traces of the initial impression visible alongside the final position.
