1951-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-014

Description

Notable for documenting a reverse die change mid-production, this VarietyVista-recorded 1951-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-014 shows S/S South displacement. Die markers span two die pairings: UVC-1101 / DMR-020 covers Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed) and Stage B with light die scratches North-South on obverse and a small die chip on T of CENT at MDS. Then UVC-3463 / DMR-026 covers Stage C with a light die clash at throat at LMDS, reverse die changed to EDS, and a die gouge under T of CENT. Stage D is LDS (unconfirmed). The reverse jumping from worn to fresh EDS proves the reverse die was replaced while the RPM obverse continued service. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, each die received its S mintmark via manual punch at Philadelphia before shipment west.
