1951-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1951-S 5¢ WRPM-003 and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #2 (listed as S/S West), this San Francisco Jefferson Nickel bears three reverse die markers: a small die gouge just below the mintmark, a long die scratch running N/S to the left of Monticello, and a die scratch running SSW/NNE through the right side of the F in OF. These reverse markers provide a robust identification framework. The CONECA RPM #2 cross-reference indicates this was among the earliest cataloged RPMs for the 1951-S date. Schlag's design was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The long N/S die scratch beside Monticello is a particularly distinctive marker due to its length and prominent placement adjacent to the building facade, making it readily visible under moderate magnification.
