Three die stages chart the working die’s progression through its service life: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), representing the die before significant wear accumulated; Stage B places both the obverse and reverse at mid-die state (MDS), indicating moderate but not terminal deterioration; Stage C shows the obverse in late die state (LDS) with a die chip visible on the T of CENT, a progressive deterioration marker on the reverse that developed as the die approached the end of its useful lifespan.
