1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-010

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-010 presents an unusual reversal where the secondary mintmark appears weak at EDS but strong at MDS. Die markers UVC-364 / DMR-011: Stage A with weak secondary mintmark at EDS and die scratch through the lower last A of AMERICA at EDS; Stage B with strong secondary mintmark outside main mintmark at MDS and depression on T of CENT at MDS; Stage C with strong secondary mintmark inside main mintmark at LDS, die crack in lower 5 of date, and reverse at LDS; Stage D with die crack between 9 and 5 of date at VLDS, die crack connecting 9 and 5 to mintmark, low fill die chip in lower 5 of date, and die break on T of CENT at VLDS. The shifting visibility pattern from weak-outside-strong to strong-inside suggests differential wear rates exposing deeper punch impressions. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
