1950 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

As the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1950 Roosevelt Dime, WDDR-001 holds a primary position in Wexler Team attribution for this early date in John R. Sinnock's dime series. The doubling manifests as a medium spread from a pivot point at approximately 10:00 on DIME, UNUM, the right stem, and the right-hand outer leaves of the olive branch — a rotational spread pattern that produces varying degrees of separation across these design elements depending on distance from the pivot. This Philadelphia Mint issue was struck in the original 90% silver and 10% copper composition that would continue through 1964. Obverse die markers include a large die gouge southeast of the D of GOD and a die chip centered above the W in WE. The reverse carries a die scratch running from the inner lower leaf on the right-hand side southwest to the torch base, a light die crack in the lower torch holder extending southeast from the left edge, a die chip above the upper left D of DIME, and a light die crack from the right side of the torch base extending southeast into the field. The Roosevelt Dime debuted in 1946, making the 1950 issue a relatively early entry in a series that continues today.
