1950-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-197, DMR-005, this 1950 Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime displays a repunched mintmark with a D/D North orientation, meaning the initial D punch was placed north (above) the final corrected position. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A (early die state), Stage B (mid-die state), and Stage C (late die state). The northward displacement of the initial impression creates a secondary D visible above the primary mintmark, a diagnostic feature that is typically strongest in early die states before progressive die wear softens the detail. The 1950-D Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver (0.900 fine), part of the pre-1965 composition that gives these coins intrinsic precious metal value. John R. Sinnock's portrait of Franklin Roosevelt had been in production for four years by 1950, and Denver Mint die preparation still relied on hand-punching mintmarks into individual working dies. The D/D North direction provides a specific attribution point that separates RPM-002 from other repunched mintmark varieties documented for the 1950-D issue.
