1950-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-032

Description

Showing D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunching, WRPM-032 on the 1950 Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent documents a mintmark punch that was rotated between impressions, leaving a secondary D visible at an angle to the final position. Obverse die markers include a northeast-southwest die scratch through the upper left side of the mint mark, a west-southwest to east-northeast die scratch at left center of the 9 in the date, three die gouges northwest behind the center of the back, and die gouges near the rim behind the bust. The reverse carries a long, light die scratch below the N in UNUM running through the bottom of the E of ONE and the top of the T in CENT, then continuing the length of the T. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1950-D 1¢ WRPM-032, the tilted repunching creates a rotational ghost image of the D that distinguishes this from simple directional RPMs where the secondary punch is merely displaced along a single axis.
