1950-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-031

Description

Thirty-first in the Wexler Team catalog for 1950-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPMs, WRPM-031 displays a D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunch. No cross-references are known. Two obverse stages: Stage A carries a long NNE/SSW scratch behind the shoulder and a N/S scratch connecting the lower right E in WE to the top of the head. Stage B develops a die crack from behind the ear meandering NE to the top of the ear then north to the top of the head. Two reverse stages: Stage A has a scratch south through E of ONE ending at T of CENT. Stage B adds a scratch SW from the bottom E of E PLURIBUS ending above the left wheat stalk and a N-by-E scratch from the upper left T in CENT through E of ONE. The high sequence number — thirty-one — for a single date reflects extraordinary research depth on 1950-D Lincoln Wheat Cents. Denver struck 334,950,000 cents that year, providing ample material for die variety discovery. D/D Tilted (Rotated) Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Long NNE/SSW die scratch behind the shoulder. N/S die scratch connecting the lower right side of E in WE to the top of the head. Obverse Stage B: Die crack runs from behind the ear meandering northeast to the top of the ear then runs north to the top of the head. North by East die scratch from the upper left side of the T in CENT running through the E of ONE.
