1950-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-027

Description

The 1950-D WRPM-027 Lincoln Wheat cent is a D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunched mint mark variety, where the D mint mark was punched into the die at least twice with a slight rotation between impressions. Prior to 1990, mint marks were added to working dies by hand using a separate punch, and imprecise placement often resulted in overlapping or tilted secondary images. Two die gouges above the 0 in the date serve as additional die markers for attribution, providing secondary confirmation beyond the repunched mint mark itself. The reverse exhibits a die crack along the right wheat stalk edge running from the top kernel level down to the third-from-bottom kernel level, documenting progressive die failure. Denver struck 334.9 million cents in 1950, making this a high-mintage issue, yet specific die varieties like WRPM-027 remain scarce because each working die produced only a fraction of the total output. Repunched mint marks are among the most widely collected variety types in the Lincoln cent series.
