1949-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-038

Description

The 1949-D Lincoln Wheat Cent WRPM-038 is a D/D/D triple-punched mintmark — the D struck three times at different positions — cataloged in the Wexler RPM Files under 1949-D 1¢ WRPM-038, with North and Tilted (Rotated) secondary punches. Triple-punch configurations are among the more complex RPM types documented for Lincoln Wheat Cents. Obverse die markers are extensive: northwest die scratches appear under the G of GOD, northeast die scratches under the O of GOD, additional northeast die scratches around the WE of WE TRUST, and a die chip in the field at the back edge of the bust to the left of the VDB designer's initials. On the reverse, a die crack runs south from the top of the left wheat stalk continuing along the left edge, and a die scratch appears above the O in OF. The die is in a late die state overall. The cluster of obverse markers around GOD and WE — combined with the VDB-area die chip — gives this variety exceptional diagnostic density. The four independent obverse markers provide multiple confirmation points before attribution is submitted, and the VDB initials serve as a fixed reference point for locating the die chip's precise placement relative to the bust.
