1948-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

With an S/S West displacement, this 1948 San Francisco Lincoln Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-1088 / DMR-012: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B MDS with strong but short die scratches at the forehead hairline, plus a light die crack from the lower right wheat to the rim; Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). The forehead hairline scratches sit on one of Lincoln's highest-relief portrait areas, where die tools or handling easily leave marks. The wheat-to-rim crack follows a natural stress path where deep recesses concentrate striking pressure. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-and-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, Brenner's design was in its 39th year. The westward displacement indicates the initial S was placed east of the intended location, with the corrective punch establishing the final position further west. S/S West.
