Error
Description
Notable for its dual die pairing and cross-listed obverse, this VarietyVista-recorded 1948-S Lincoln Wheat Cent shows an S/S West displacement. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-307 / DMR-006 for Stage A with strong die scratch north from LIBERTY at EDS and reverse at LDS; Stage B with medium die scratch north from T of LIBERTY at MDS and reverse at VLDS. Then UVC-308 / DMR-007 for Stage C with weak obverse die scratch at LDS, reverse die changed to EDS, and two die scratches south from O of OF to wheat stem. The obverse is listed as DDO-001, creating a dual-variety coin combining RPM with doubled die obverse. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the distinctive LIBERTY die scratches diminish systematically from strong through medium to weak across the three stages.
