1947-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-033

Description

A D/D tilted or rotated repunched mintmark defines WRPM-033 on the 1947 Denver Lincoln Wheat Cent, where the D mintmark was impressed into the working die at least twice with a rotational offset between impressions. The Wexler Team cataloged extensive die markers for attribution: obverse diagnostics include die scratches running east in the ear, die scratches running south under the ear, and two die scratches running northeast from the upper left of the 1 in the date. Reverse markers reveal a short die gouge on the upper outer edge of the O in ONE, an arching die scratch running from the E of STATES to the upper C of AMERICA, and a die chip between O and F. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1947-D 1¢ WRPM-033, this is the thirty-third documented repunched mintmark for the 1947-D cent — a date that yields numerous mintmark varieties because Denver mintmarks were hand-punched into each individual working die during this era.
