1947-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-015

Description

Displaying D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunching, the 1947 Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent WRPM-015 shows a secondary D impression at a rotated angle beneath the primary mint mark. Obverse die markers include northwest-southeast die scratches on Lincoln's forehead and east-west die scratches in the upper hair area, extending from the G of GOD to the front hair curl under the R of TRUST and ending slightly in the field in front of the hair curl. This extensive scratch network across the forehead and hair provides a rich set of obverse diagnostics. Reverse die markers comprise two die scratches running southeast from the right side of the T of CENT into the field below, plus a die gouge at the left side of the right wheat ear located northeast of the second S in STATES. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1947-D 1¢ WRPM-015, the tilted repunching creates a rotational displacement of the secondary D that distinguishes this from simple directional RPMs on the same date.
