1947-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011
Error
Description
Attributed by the Wexler Team, the 1947-D Lincoln Wheat Cent WRPM-011 is documented across two obverse die stages and two reverse die stages, providing a sequential picture of die progression. Obverse Stage A is characterized by a large die gouge in the upper right portion of the D in GOD, scratches directed south from the nose and lip, and north/south scratches around the date. Obverse Stage B sees a die chip develop on the bridge of the nose — a prominent feature easily referenced against Lincoln's portrait anatomy — while most of the Stage A scratches have been polished away, confirming that the coin entered a polished intermediate state. Reverse Stage A shows WSW/ENE scratches through UNUM and an east/west scratch above ST of STATES. Reverse Stage B develops a die chip to the right of the upper crossbar of the E in ONE and a die chip beneath the last S of STATES, two specific raised markers on struck coins that can be located with precision using the Lincoln reverse motto as a reference grid. The die chip on the nose bridge in Obverse Stage B is the most visually accessible stage separator for field attribution of WRPM-011. Die scratches run south from the bottom of the nose and upper lip. N/S die scratches about the date. Most Stage A N/S die scratches about the date no longer show. Reverse Stage A: WSW/ENE die scratches through the letters of UNUM. E/W die scratch above ST of STATES.
