1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent carries a D/D/D Rotated CW, CCW triple-punched mintmark where the D punch was applied three times with two opposing rotational displacements. Die markers UVC-2593 / DMR-012 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS with the obverse showing wear and a horizontal die scratch between ER of AMERICA on the reverse; Stage D at VLDS with both obverse and reverse in very late die state. The four-stage progression to VLDS documents an exceptionally prolonged die service life. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1947-D was struck during the post-war production surge when Denver Mint output reached robust levels, generating large die populations and correspondingly numerous RPM varieties.
