Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die marker codes UVC-289 and DMR-009, this 1947-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-007 exhibits a repunched D mintmark from the Denver Mint's manual mintmark application process. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state (EDS); Stage B at mid-die-state (MDS), unconfirmed; and Stage C at late die state (LDS), also unconfirmed. The EDS confirmation for Stage A provides the earliest documented condition for this die pair, representing specimens struck when both dies were fresh and showing the repunched mintmark at maximum clarity before any progressive wear could soften the secondary D impression. The 1947-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in post-war America, returning to normal bronze composition (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter after the wartime deviations of 1943 steel cents and 1944-1945 shell case cents.
