The doubling presents as a Class II pattern visible on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, and the letters in MONTICELLO. No obverse die markers have been noted. The reverse carries several distinctive die markers: a long die gouge to the upper left of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM near the rim, a circular die gouge at the top of the left arch of Monticello, and two short die scratches extending from the lower right side of the first O in MONTICELLO. Class VI Distended Hub Doubling occurs when the hub is deformed or distended during the hubbing process, creating doubling that manifests differently than the more common rotational or pivoted classes.
