1946-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Recorded by VarietyVista with a D/D/D Northeast, Lower Serif displacement, this Denver Wheat Cent carries a triple-punched D where the lower serif shows the clearest evidence of all three impressions. Die markers: UVC-229, DMR-005. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: Die crack northwest on shoulder — MDS; reverse is MDS. Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). The northwest shoulder crack follows a natural stress concentration zone where the deep relief creates differential pressure during striking. The triple-punch pattern concentrated at the lower serif reflects a vertical correction where the engraver shifted the punch progressively northeastward. Struck at Denver in 1946, composed of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc (3.11 g, 19.05 mm), the first full post-war year with a massive mintage exceeding 315 million.
