1946-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this first-year post-war Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent shows an extended four-stage die life with markers emerging late in the production run. Die markers UVC-231 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a weak secondary mintmark at LDS, a light die crack North-Northeast across the forehead, and a die gouge dot southwest of the O of ONE at LDS; Stage D with a light die clash at throat at VLDS and a light die crack in right wheat grains at VLDS. The throat die clash at Stage D documents a clash event occurring very late in the die's service life. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1946-D was the first full post-war Denver cent, produced at robust levels after wartime restrictions were lifted.
