1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

A S/S/S triple-punched mintmark — three separate impressions of the S punch, applied West, West — makes RPM-007 one of the most remarkable repunched mintmark varieties in the 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent series. Three distinct mintmark impressions on a single die is highly unusual; the two sequential westward mispositioning corrections before a final placement was accepted left three overlapping displaced S impressions visible in the die. This variety also carries MMS-004 (Trumpet Tail) mintmark style designation, adding a second attribution layer related to the characteristic shape of the S punch itself. Catalogued UVC-209 and DMR-010 across three die stages: Stage A (early die state), Stage B (mid die state), and Stage C (late die state). The 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck in bronze — 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc — at the San Francisco Mint in the final year of World War II, under Victor David Brenner's design. The combination of triple-punch status and the Trumpet Tail mintmark style makes RPM-007 a sought variety among Lincoln Wheat Cent specialists.
