1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-022

Description

An S/S East variety using MMS-006 (Ball Serif) mintmark punch, this VarietyVista-documented 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent identifies both the displacement direction and the distinctive punch style. Die markers UVC-224 / DMR-025: Stage A with light die scratches north-south on obverse at EMDS and light die scratches north-south on reverse at EMDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The Ball Serif designation (MMS-006) refers to an S punch with rounded, ball-shaped terminals at the curve endpoints, a stylistic feature that helps researchers track which physical mintmark tools were in service at the San Francisco Mint. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-S was struck during the final year of WWII. The matching north-south die scratches on both faces at EMDS suggest a common damage source affecting both die surfaces.
