1945-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent from the final year of World War II tracks progressive mintmark attenuation alongside advancing die wear. Die markers UVC-191 / DMR-006: Stage A with a medium secondary mintmark at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed); Stage D with a very weak secondary mintmark at VLDS, two die cracks on the forehead, and a die crack in lower right wheat grains at LDS. The systematic attenuation from medium to very weak documents how extensive die wear flattened the displaced D impression over four stages. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-D was struck during the final wartime year, when Denver production remained robust. The dual forehead cracks at Stage D provide striking secondary attribution markers.
