1945-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent displays a rich array of late-stage die deterioration features alongside its repunched mintmark. Die markers UVC-194 / DMR-009 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with medium secondary mintmark visibility and reverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS with weak secondary mintmark, a light die crack over the eye, a die clash from the N of CENT visible at Lincoln's throat, and a die break in the upper right wheat grains. The Stage C concentration of four concurrent anomalies — weakened RPM, eye crack, throat clash, and wheat grain break — documents extensive late-life deterioration. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-D was struck during the final year of World War II as Denver Mint cent production maintained wartime levels.
