1945-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent records an unusually extended die life spanning two reverse die pairings across five stages. Die markers begin with UVC-192 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse at EMDS and reverse at LMDS; Stage C with obverse at LMDS and reverse at LDS. A reverse die change then yields UVC-193 / DMR-008: Stage D with obverse at LDS and reverse die changed to MDS; Stage E with obverse at VLDS and reverse at LDS. The reverse jumping from LDS back to MDS at Stage D confirms die replacement while the RPM obverse continued in service. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-D was struck during the final year of World War II when Denver Mint production ran at peak wartime levels.
