Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-0430, DMR-011, three die stages trace the progression of this die pair. Stage A is EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B shows a die crack through US of PLURIBUS extending to the wing at MDS, with the obverse also at MDS. Stage C reaches LDS (unconfirmed). The medium spread on the major reverse legends makes this variety attributable under moderate magnification, while the notched corners on QUARTER provide a secondary confirmation point. Washington Quarter doubled die reverses from the mid-1940s are relatively scarce in the VarietyVista catalog, and the combination of spread on both the national motto and denomination legend makes DDR-002 one of the more comprehensive doubled die reverses for the 1944-D date.
