Error
Description
Exhibiting a D/D South displacement, this 1944-D wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-549 / DMR-021 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a die crack from the right dome south to pillar #3 and a die crack from the rim through the second U of PLURIBUS to the mintmark, with obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The dual die cracks converging near the mintmark area at Stage B create a structural fracture pattern centered on the Monticello dome. Struck at the Denver Mint in the wartime alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1944-D features the oversized D above Monticello that distinguished the silver-content coins from standard copper-nickel issues during World War II production.
