1944-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-013

Description

Exhibiting a D/D Rotated CCW displacement, this 1944-D wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with the counterclockwise rotation creating an angular offset between primary and secondary D impressions. Die markers UVC-187 / DMR-015 track three stages: Stage A at EDS with die gouges through the lower UN of UNUM and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS with reverse at MDS and a die crack southeast in Jefferson's hair; Stage C at LDS with light N-S die scratches on the lower reverse and obverse at LDS. The early-stage die gouges in UNUM at Stage A suggest pre-production damage, while the hair crack at Stage B documents subsequent structural fatigue. Struck at the Denver Mint in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, with the oversized D above Monticello distinguishing the wartime silver alloy coins.
