Description
A D/D/D North, North triple-punched mintmark documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel records an obverse die change at Stage D introducing a fresh die paired with the continuing reverse. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-184 / DMR-012 for Stages A-C and UVC-517 / DMR-019 for Stage D. Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with numerous die scratches north-south on reverse at LDS, a die crack from right dome south between pillar #3 and #4 to steps, and a die crack across upper hair onto forehead above eye at LDS; Stage D with a die crack from mintmark north to rim through left leg of the second U of PLURIBUS at LDS and obverse die changed at MDS. The Monticello pillar-to-steps crack at Stage C documents a fracture traversing the architectural detail area. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm.
