Error
Description
A D/D Rotated CCW variety on the wartime silver alloy Jefferson Nickel, this 1944-D RPM-006 from the Denver Mint was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-180 / DMR-008 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with the reverse at LDS and a die crack from the head to the rim at K-11:00. The counterclockwise rotation creates non-parallel overlap between D impressions above Monticello's dome. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the oversized D mintmark was mandated to distinguish wartime silver-content coins from standard issues. The unfamiliar large punch size increased rotational misalignment likelihood during manual application.
