1943-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-016

Description

An S/S Tilted displacement from the San Francisco Mint, this 1943-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista and specimens are sought for new color digital photographs. Die markers UVC-507 / DMR-031 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a die crack from the right dome south to C of MONTICELLO and a die crack northwest in Jefferson's hair at LDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The tilted displacement creates a non-parallel overlap where the secondary S is angularly offset relative to the primary, producing varying separation around the letter's perimeter. The dome-to-MONTICELLO die crack traces the architectural transition from roof to inscription. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1943-S features the oversized S above Monticello, following the large-mintmark convention across all wartime mint facilities.
