Error
Description
Struck at the San Francisco Mint in the wartime silver alloy, this 1943-S Jefferson Nickel RPM-014 was documented by VarietyVista with an S/S East displacement. Die markers UVC-495 / DMR-022: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Specimens are needed for new color digital photographs. The eastward displacement indicates the initial oversized S was placed slightly west of the intended position before the corrective second punch. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1943-S carries the large S above Monticello following the convention established in 1942 across all three wartime mint facilities. The confirmed EDS for Stage A means early die state specimens have been positively identified, providing baseline die surface documentation.
