1943-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel shows an S mintmark repunched at a different position above Monticello's dome. Die markers UVC-141 / DMR-008: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse at MDS and a die crack across the hair at MDS; Stage C with a die crack from the right dome south between pillar #3 and #4 at LDS and a die crack across the base of the bust at LDS. The dual die cracks at LDS — one descending through Monticello's pillars and one crossing the bust — document advanced structural fatigue on both design elements. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1943-S features the oversized S that distinguished the wartime silver alloy composition.
