Error
Description
An S/S Southwest variety from the San Francisco Mint, this VarietyVista-documented 1942-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel RPM-012 tracks four progressive die states. Die markers UVC-054 / DMR-013: Stage A at VEDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack from right dome southwest between pillar #1 and #2 at EDS, and obverse at EDS; Stage C with reverse at EMDS and a die crack from bust to rim at EMDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The VEDS designation for Stage A indicates very early die state specimens are anticipated but not yet confirmed. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1942-S features the oversized S above Monticello, following the large-mintmark convention established across all three wartime mint facilities to distinguish the emergency silver-content composition.
