Error
Description
From the inaugural year of the wartime silver Jefferson Nickel series, this 1942-S RPM-006 was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-048 / DMR-007: Stage A at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack south from right dome to steps at EMDS and a light crack southeast through hair at EMDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The simultaneous appearance of cracks on both the reverse dome-to-steps area and the obverse hair documents concurrent structural deterioration across both die faces at Early-Mid Die State. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1942-S was part of the first production run of the emergency wartime composition, with the oversized S above Monticello distinguishing these coins from standard copper-nickel issues.
