About This Coin
The 1942 Cent Patterns is a United States cent from the Design Reform Patterns (1880-1942) series — the final year of the series. In 1942, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features experimental designs exploring artistic improvements to U.S. coinage and the reverse displays various experimental designs. Produced during World War II, when the Mint altered coin compositions to conserve strategic metals for the war effort. A notable auction result reached $200K in PR66 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Charles E. Barber, George T. Morgan, and others.
