1941-S Doubled Working Hub Reverse WWHR-001
Error
Description
Unlike a standard doubled die where doubling affects a single working die, WWHR-001 is a doubled working hub -- meaning the doubling was impressed into the hub itself, so every working die produced from that hub carries the same spread. Attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-II and Cherrypickers FS-10-1941S-801 (removed in the 6th Edition), this 1941-S Mercury dime shows Class II spread on STATES OF AMERICA, the top of the axe, the uppermost leaves and berries, the right star, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and DIME. Because the doubling originates at the hub level rather than the die level, individual die markers will vary across the multiple working dies that inherited this spread, making each struck example potentially unique in its secondary diagnostics while sharing the same fundamental hub doubling.
